history  of  Grace  Lutheran  Church

Trinity Lutheran Church, Neenah and the District Mission Board in 1947 wanted to see a mission church on Neenah’s south side. On April 4th, 1948 Grace held its first service in the Neenah Recreation Building on Park Avenue. Soon after on Sunday, May 23rd, 1948 Grace was officially organized as a congregation. A year and a half later on December 11th, 1949 Grace Lutheran Chapel was dedicated to the glory of God. The congregation grew and when Trinity school, Neenah was filled to capacity and they could no longer accept our children except on a space available only basis. The congregation voted to start their own Christian Day School. A three room school with an all purpose room was dedicated on September 2nd, 1962.

During the next 20 years the members of Grace saw a great deal of change. The growth area around the church was stymied and by the late 70’s early 80’s showed that more people were beginning to live on the west side of highway 41. With no WELS church on the west side of Neenah and the prospect of mission outreach, the congregation with the encouragement of the District Mission Board decided to relocate to the west of Neenah.

In 1984 Grace purchased the property at 1390 Breezewood Lane. The house on this property became the new parsonage. After the church was sold in 1987, the congregation held Sunday service, Sunday School and Bible Class at Neenah High School. Church construction began on October 3rd, 1988. The present building was dedicated to God’s glory on Sunday, June 11th, 1989. We no longer operate our own Lutheran Elementary School a school, we work with Trinity and Martin Luther schools in Neenah who provide solid Christian education for our children.

The Lord has truly blessed this congregation and for the past 64 years has remained faithful in proclaiming God’s Word in its truth and purity and in serving the members of Grace.
